Once upon a time, there was a Land, small, covered by wood, with small rivers and humble people. The World didn't want to notice the Land's forest so she planted a large, perceivable, white mountain, called Snežnik. From this miracle, it's possible to see the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. The World didn't want to recognise the Land so she directed her waters towards the far Black Sea instead of the near Adriatic Sea. The World didn't want to admire the Land's rivers so she directed them towards the mysterious underground. Those rivers formed a beautiful cave-world, full of mysterious waterfalls, pools and rocky ornaments. When they came on the surface, the numerous romantic lakes appeared and disappeared. All year round, it was possible to fish, hunt, sow and reap on them. The World didn't want to respect the Land's inhabitants so a famous hero appeared, named Martin Krpan. He annoyed the rulers with the cartage of salt on his small horse. He was strong and smart and he tricked
everybody. Once he saved the capital city of Vienna from the Turkish enemy. His squeeze was so robust that nobody could forget him. And then, these villages, this Land became well-known. The travellers started talking about the Karst of Inner Carniola (Notranjski kras), the rulers about Inner Carniola (Notranjska) and the educated people named her the land of Krpan, Krpanova dežela.
The land still exists. Let's explore it with us.
